Trooper Charles Corbin was killed in a vehicle accident.

On September 15, 1943, Trooper Corbin 27, was traveling in his patrol car accompanied by Public Service Commission Inspector Ed Bilyeu north of Carthage on US-71 when it was struck by a tractor-trailer. Trooper Corbin's patrol car approached the truck as they both were entering a bridge from opposite directions. The truck struck the bridge and jackknifed into the path of the patrol car. Trooper Corbin was killed instantly and Inspector Bilyeu was critically injured. The driver of the truck was held and charged with manslaughter, but the charge was dismissed.

Trooper Corbin served with the National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant Major. After being released from the National Guard 1941 he served with the Cape Girardeau Police Department until his appointment to the Missouri Highway Patrol in December 22, 1941. He was survived by his wife and son; G. Paul Corbin, who became a member of the Patrol in 1966 and retired as a Captain in 1994. Trooper Corbin was the fourth officer to be killed in the line of duty.
