During the afternoon of June 12, 1970, Trooper William Brandt was killed when a tornado blew his patrol car into a concrete bridge abutment on US-36, approximately 8 miles west of Macon, Missouri. Trooper Brandt had been on storm watch alert in the Macon, Missouri, area when the incident occurred. Homes were demolished, farm buildings damaged, the roof of the Highway Patrol Troop B Headquarters was partially torn off and radio transmitter tower blown down during the storm.

Trooper Brandt served with the agency for two years and was the 10th Trooper to lose his life in the line of duty. He was survived by his wife. Interred: Evergreen Cemetery, De Witt, NO.
