Police Officer Michael Langsdorf was shot and killed after responding to a call involving a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

On June 23, 2019 at 4:40 pm, Officer Langsdorf responded to a call at Clay's Food Market, 6250 Page Avenue in Wellston involving a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Officer Langsdorf was shot during a struggle inside the store with a suspect that was captured on store's security video. Officer Langsdorf was rushed to Barnes Jewish Hospital were he later died. Two suspects were taken into custody, one was charged with first-degree murder, a second suspect who was charged with second-degree murder was previously sentenced to 20 years confinement in 1998 for a prior second-degree murder charge.

Officer Langsdorf served with the North County Police Cooperative for only three months and had previously served with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for 17 years. He is survived by his fiancée, daughter, son and parents. The funeral service was at Cathedral Basilica of St Louis. Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, St Louis.
