Park Policeman Charles Bacher was shot and killed in Forest Park by a woman who thought that he was a bandit.

The woman was riding in a car with her husband, who was speeding when Policeman Bacher and his partner attempted to stop them near the intersection of McKinley Drive and Wells Drive at 4:00 am. The woman, who was scared because of a recent crime wave, told her husband to continue driving. When Policeman Bacher finally got the man to stop he approached the vehicle. The woman grabbed her husband's revolver and began shooting, fatally wounding Policeman Bacher.

The woman was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Policeman Bacher, born in Germany, was survived by his wife. Interred: Valhalla Cemetery, Bel-Nor, MO.
