Deputy Constable Edward Neu was shot to death during a motor vehicle stop. At 9:45 PM, Deputy Neu pulled over two automobiles that appeared to be racing each other. As Deputy Neu dismounted from his motorcycle, both drivers exited their vehicles and one of the drivers drew a pistol on Deputy Neu. The suspect ordered Deputy Neu to surrender his weapon and then shot him twice in the chest. As Deputy Neu lay on the ground, the suspect shot him a third time in the head.

Deputy Neu was a WWI navy veteran. He was survived by his brothers, Joseph, John and Charles Neu. Parents: Mary and John Jacob Neu. Interred: Calvary Cemetery.
