On August 29, 1941 at 11:00 pm, Deputy Sheriff and Jailer Chris Freeman was stricken with a heart attack on the lawn of the County Jail and died a few minutes later. Deputy Freeman had been called shortly before the incident to the Wunderlich Service Station near the jail where an automobile had blocked a driveway. Deputy Freeman took the driver who had failed to move the car to jail and collapsed.
Deputy Freeman had served as a deputy since January 1st. Interred: Russell Heights Cemetery, Jackson, MO.
