On the night of March 11, 1992 at approximately 11:00 pm, Special Agent Stanley Ronquest, Jr., was exiting a vehicle when two assailants attempted to rob him outside of the Historic Suites of America Hotel at 612 Central. During an ensuing struggle the suspect shot Agent Ronquest with the agent's .38 caliber revolver. The bullet passed through Agent Ronquest's heart. The revolver was traded for 3 rocks of crack cocaine by a suspect's girlfriend that evening.
Special Agent Ronquest, Jr., was a St. Louis native, joined the St. Louis Police Department in September 1962 rising to the rank of detective before leaving in 1968. He obtained a degree in eduction from UMSL before joining the FBI in 1970. Agent Ronquest was assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters. At the time of his death, Special Agent Ronquest was on temporary assignment in the FBI's Kansas City Field Office.
Two brothers, Richard L. Primm (38) and Robert L. Pearson (32), were apprehended and charged in federal court in Kansas City with the murder. Prim received 30 years in the federal penitentiary. Pearson received a sentence of 15 years.
Special Agent Ronquest had served twenty-one years with the FBI. Interred: Arlington National Cemetery.
