Officer Robbins was killed in an automobile accident while attempting to stop a vehicle.
On May 2, 1968 at about 1:45 am, Officer Robbins began chasing a speeding car about 2 miles south of Hannibal. His police vehicle left the right side of the roadway westbound on Highway 36, 2 1/2 miles west of Hannibal and overturned, throwing him from the vehicle. The automobile being pursued also went out of control on the highway, skidded then continued at a high speed away from the scene of the crash. A short time later another officer notified dispatch that Officer Robbin's vehicle had crashed. Officer Robbins died from head injuries about an hour later at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Officer Robbins served with the police department for 4 years. He was survived by his wife and two daughters. Interred: Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hannibal, MO.
