Police Officer Blaize Madrid-Evans was shot and killed when he responded to the 2300 block of Northern Boulevard after dispatchers received a tip stating a wanted subject was at a residence.
On September 15, 2021, As officers arrived at the scene at about 11:30 am, they were ambushed by a subject who opened fire on them, striking Officer Madrid-Evans in the neck. Officer Madrid-Evans' field training instructor returned fire and killed the subject.
Officer Madrid-Evans was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds later that evening.
Officer Madrid-Evans graduated from the police academy only two months earlier and was still in field training. He had previously served nearly two years as an emergency responder with American Medical Response. He is survived by his parents and fiancée.
