On May 2, 1924, Officer Wilcox was seriously injured when his motorcycle struck an Arctic Ice Cream Company Truck at the corner of 31st Street and Troost Street. Officer Wilcox died from his injuries at St Lukes Hospital the next day.

Officer Wilcox had served on the department for one year. He was a US Army veteran serving in the 35th Division in France, he was a Freemason and was survived by his mother and his sister. Interred: Mount Washington Cemetery.
