Officer Marion Bowman was attempting on make an arrest when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
On April 12, 1968, Officer Bowman, 44, was attempting to subdue a person involved in a disturbance during the 1968 riots at 3536 Main Street, and suffered a fatal heart attack. Officer Bowman was taken to General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:50 am. The National Guard and Highway Patrol patrolled the city to maintain peace during the riots.
Officer Bowman was a WW II veteran. He had been with the Kansas City Police Department for 15 years joining in April 1, 1953. He was survived by his wife and child. Interred: Clearfield Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa.
