On October 26, 1930 , Deputy Jesse Henderson was shot when Parma Night Marshal Cletus Smith's revolver fired accidentally as he struck a man he was attempting to eject from the ball park. Marshal Smith was attempting to remove a man, John Sint, who was gate crashing a baseball game in Parma and during the ensuing argument Marshal Smith drew his revolver and prepared to strike Sint when Deputy Henderson standing nearby said, "I wouldnt do that - It isn't necessary." Marshal Smith then struck Sint and the gun discharged. The bullet passed through Deputy Henderson's heart killing him instantly.
Deputy Henderson was survived by his wife. Interred: Evergreen Cemetery, New Madrid, MO.
