City Marshal & Constable Dolph Walker was shot and killed while making an arrest for bootlegging.
On December 24, 1922, Marshal Walker arrested a suspect, Carson Walker, for bootlegging "white lightning." His bond was posted and he was released. On December 25th, the bondsman requested to be released from his bond and Marshal Walker took the suspect back into custody. Marshal Walker had the bootlegging suspect inside the Pascola City Hall and was at the door of the City Jail at 7:30 pm when the suspect's father, Claude Smith, opened fire. Marshal Walker, wounded three times in the chest, fell to the floor. Marshal Walker returned fire, fataly wounding the suspect just below the heart. The prisoner grabbed the gun dropped by his father but Marshal Walker fired again, wounding the prisoner in the hand. Marshal Walker was rushed to Hayti for medical aid and then to Frisco Hospital in St. Louis on the midnight train. He died there the next night, December 26th at 11:00 pm.
City Marshal Walker was first known to have been elected marshal of Pascola in 1917. Marshal Walker successfully ran for Pascola Township Constable on November 3, 1922 and was noted in several news articles at the time of his death as being constable and marshal of Pascola.
