Officer Nicholas Hunt was shot and killed after he and his partner responded to a robbery at a local store. Officer Hung joined in the pursuit and during the ensuing exchange of gunfire at Jefferson and Randal Streets one of the three suspects was fatally wounded and Officer Hunt was killed.
The suspect was apprehended in Wilmington, Delaware for another robbery but escaped from prison. He was then again arrested in Rhode Island for a robbery and sentenced to 25 years. When he was pardoned by the Rhode Island Governor in 1914 he was released from jail but arrested by St. Louis detectives and returned to Missouri to face robbery and murder charges.
Officer Hunt had served with the police department for two years. Interred: Unmarked grave, Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, St. Louis, MO.
