Officer John Bohlen was struck and killed by a streetcar at Humboldt Avenue and North Broadway in the Sixth District. He was struck by a south-bound Broadway streetcar while waiting for a south-bound streetcar. A motorman for the northbound street car said he saw Officer Bohlen standing on the track facing the away and failed to see the oncoming streetcar. Death resulted from a skull fracture and internal injuries.
Officer Bohlen walked the beat on which he was killed. Officer Bohlen was appointed a probationary patrolman on June 18, 1908 and was promoted to patrolman on June 1, 1908. Officer Bohlen was a Spanish-American War veteran and had been with the agency for 17 years. He was survived by his wife, Kate, and parents. Interred: New Bethlehem Memorial Park Cemetery.
