On July 5, 1948, Officer Fabick was struck by a hit-and-run driver while directing traffic at an accident scene at 6700 Watson Street. The vehicle that struck him had been drag racing and carried him 114 feet. Officer Fabick died the next morning, on July 6, 1948. The driver was arrested and admitted to striking Officer Fabick after he was confronted with witness statements and the driver's damaged car. The man was charged with manslaughter.
Officer Fabick had been with the agency for 25 years and was survived by his wife and children. Interred: Resurrection Cemetery, Afton, MO.
