On June 5, 1948 at about 8:58 pm, Officer Raymond Hacker was struck by two automobiles while directing traffic in a rain storm around live wires blown down at Seventh and Carroll Streets. The driver of one vehicle traveling south on Seventh Street during a Saturday night storm failed to see Officer Hacker in time to avoid an accident and struck him throwning him into the path of a second vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Officer Hacker died from his wounds which included a skull fracture six days later at City Hospital at 6:00 am on June 11th.
Officer Hacker was assigned to the Third District. Officer Hacker was a first generation American with his father born in Germany and his mother in Switzerland. He was survived by his wife. Interred: Sunset Memorial Park, Afton, MO.
