Officer Lorenzo Rodgers was shot and killed during a failed street robbery.
On June 12, 1990 at 9:30 pm, Officer Rodgers was in front of a laundromat at 532 Des Peres. Suddenly, 20 year-old Lamarr Pearson pulled a gun and attempted to rob him.
Officer Rodgers drew his revolver and exchanged fire with Pearson. During the gun battle Rodgers was struck in the head by one of the bullets. Though fatally wounded, Officer Rodgers shot Pearson in the leg, arm and abdomen. Pearson tried to flee from the scene, but collapsed nearby, was arrested and charged with murder.
Officer Rodgers served on the department 14 months. He was assigned to the eighth district and was considered an excellent officer with a promising career. Officer Rodgers mother died when he was only 15 months old and he was raised by his grandmother who survived him. Interred: Valhalla Cemetery.
