Officer Tamarris L. Bohannon succumbed to a gunshot sustained the previous night when he and another officer were ambushed when they responded to a reported shooting.
On Aug 29, 2020 at about 6:00 pm, Officer Bohannon and other officers were dispatched to a call reporting a shooting in the 3700 block of Hartford Street. They were searching for a victim when the suspect, who had taken up a position in an upstairs window, shot Officer Bohannon in the head and shot a second responding officer in the leg.
Officer Bohannon was taken to St Louis University Hospital where he succumbed to his wound the following day. The officer who sustained the leg wound was also transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. The officers were among eight St. Louis officers shot in the line of duty during the previous 90 days.
The suspect remained barricaded inside of the home until being taken into custody by a tactical team shortly before 5 a.m. the following morning. The 43 year-old suspect had a long and violent criminal history and was wanted in Florida for sexual battery and kidnaping. He was held on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, burglary, armed criminal action, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon.
Officer Bohannon, known as 'Bo', had served with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for 3 1/2 years. He is survived by his wife and three young children. Service: Cathedral Basilica of St Louis.
