Night Marshal Alexander Sutton succumbed to injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle while on duty as the city's night marshal. He suffered a fractured skull and a fractured tibula and fibula when he was struck by a car on U.S. 66 in downtown Waynesville on June 1st. He died from complications of his injuries at Dewitt Hospital on June 25, 1952.

Marshal Sutton had served in law enforcement for 51 years. Early in the 1900s he was elected Pulaski County Sheriff for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Savillia, and survived by his son, Robert. Interred: Fairview Cemetery, Pulaski County, Missouri.
