Sheriff Condo Evans was killed on August 2, 1937 in an automobile accident while in Oklahoma picking up a prisoner. Sheriff Evans had picked up a prisoner in New Mexico to return to Marshfield when near Pitcher, Oklahoma he was struck head-on by a woman attempting to pass a truck traveling in the opposite direction. Sheriff Evans suffered severe injuries including a basal skull fracture and died at a Picher, Oklahoma Hospital without regaining consciousness at 10:05 pm. His wife who had been accompanying him was also seriously injured.
Sheriff Evans was elected in 1936 and had served only seven months as sheriff. He previously served as Night Watchman then City Marshal of Marshfield, MO. He was a WWI veteran having served in the 42nd Infantry Division. Interred: Marshfield Cemetery, Marshfield, MO.
