Sheriff Condo Evans was killed on August 2, 1937 in an automobile accident while in Oklahoma picking up a prisoner. Sheriff Evans had picked up a prisoner in New Mexico to return to Marshfield when near Pitcher, Oklahoma he was struck head-on by a woman attempting to pass a truck traveling in the opposite direction. Sheriff Evans suffered severe injuries including a basal skull fracture and died at a Picher, Oklahoma Hospital without regaining consciousness at 10:05 pm.

Sheriff Evans was elected in 1936 and had served only seven months as sheriff. He previously served as Night Watchman then City Marshal of Marshfield, MO. He was a WWI veteran having served in the 42nd Infantry Division. Interred: Marshfield Cemetery, Marshfield, MO.
